spamBlock uses a couple smart but simple techniques to make it the most effective and user-friendly spam blocker available on Chaturbate. Here's what spamBlock does better:
User Friendly- Most spam blockers require users to solve a math problem or convert spelled out numbers to digits, While these hurdles are a pain in the ass for the user, they are almost useless against spambots, which can easily solve these problems. spamBlock displays numbers using a visual pattern which is simple and quick for users to enter, yet complex for spambots to solve.
- Typically the first time a user types a chat message, the spam blocker prompts them with a problem to solve, and once it is solved, the user has to type their original message in again (because the first one was blocked). There is nothing more frustrating to a user than having to retype a message -- performers lose more users than they realize this way. spamBlock is the only spam blocker that sends the user's original message after they have been verified, without their having to retype it.
- spamBlock offers the option to "whitelist" your regular/known users so they do not have to got through the verification process.
- Safe and Open Source -- spamBlock will always be provided as an open source bot, meaning anyone at any time can examine the code and see exactly how it works, with no hidden surprises to be worried about.
Effective- Spambots can be very easily programmed to solve the relatively simple questions posed by typical spam blockers, e.g. math problems or converting spelled out numbers to digits. spamBlock displays the number that the user must enter as a visual pattern, which requires a whole different level of sophistication to hack -- more than most CB spammers could invest in. In addition, the patterns are changed regularly, so any potential hack would be short lived.
- Most spam blockers only verify grey users. This is also the default for spamBlock, however there is an option to verify other color accounts as well. Since spamBlock is so user friendly, you may want to consider combining this option with whitelisting to defend against spambots running under paid user accounts, which have become increasingly common.
